OASIS

What does it mean?

(n) 1: a fertile or green area in an arid region (such as a desert)
(n) 2: something that provides refuge, relief, or pleasant contrast. (M.W Dictionary)

Names are important. Whether in history, the Bible, or your own family tree, names play a very important role in the lives of humans. At Oasis our name is important, because it describes who the Lord has called us to be, not just as a church, but as a network of churches

ABOUT OASIS GRANGER

October 2010 marked our sixth year anniversary as a church. Often people will ask us what makes us different or why does Granger need another church? I could name all sorts of reasons, but really, for us, it’s about one word –GRACE.

For us, this word isn’t just a doctrine and it isn’t just something you say before dinner. Unfortunately, in our American culture, grace has lost a lot of its meaning. People name their kids ‘Grace’, they dance ‘gracefully’, or they cut somebody a break and they refer to that as ‘giving them grace’. These things are really only glimpses, shadows, and concepts, of something much larger and much more profound. We are here simply because of grace. The Apostle Paul said the same thing in Acts 20:24, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me- the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

These days churches become known for all sorts of things: choirs, worship bands, political viewpoints, the size of their building, or their pastor. But Paul wanted to be known by grace, specifically God’s grace–that God loves us completely independently of what we do, or how we act. He looks beyond our performance, beyond our words (whether good or bad), and offers us life free of charge. At Oasis we don’t want to be known for our building, our pastor, or even the things that we do. We want to be known by the the finished work of the cross of Christ.  Let’s make Jesus famous!
